Chinoiserie, a European decorative arts movement that drew inspiration from Chinese culture, first flourished in the 17th and 18th century. Iconic blue and white porcelain and wallpaper depicting Asian flora and fauna motifs decked the fanciful halls of the French nobility.
The 1920s and 30s saw a resurgence of Chinoiserie, with Art Deco jewelry houses reinventing materials revered by the Chinese such as jade, coral and onyx, and incorporating Chinese good fortune characters in gold.
Just in time for the first buds of spring, we’ve rounded up vibrant blue lapis, pale jade and warm coral vintage necklaces, bangles and pendants that capture the East meets West spirit of Chinoiserie and add a retro chic touch to any look. Check out our Pinterest Board for inspiration.
