New York City, a place of never-ending style inspiration, and a formative city for some of us at Three Sisters Jewelry, is ever in our hearts and on our mind these days. We wanted to pay homage to the city with a look at one of our favorite eras in jewelry history – ‘70s punk rock.
NYC in the 1970s was the birthplace of downtown counterculture. It was a decade and place that witnessed both the intensity of punk rock and the disco dance craze. Blondie, the Ramones and Patti Smith frequented NYC’s iconic music venue, CBGBs - home to the OG punk scene. The raw and edgy style of these legends led to a punk “DIY” style with body piercings-influenced adornments such as safety pins on distressed clothing and studded chokers.
We’ve rounded up a selection of ‘70s style pieces that capture the rebellious spirit of the time and feel stylistically relevant today (hint: bell bottoms are back), including gold safety pin clasps, retro chains, diamond daggers, nails, and vintage cocktail rings.
